Cottonwood Bud Salve

Also known as “Balm of Gilead” this salve is made with the resinous buds of the cottonwood tree. It is used to treat muscle aches and skin irritations such as bug bites or scrapes. Traditionally these buds are wild harvested in late winter/early spring following a windstorm when the branches can be found strewn across the ground. The buds are infused in warm oil for up to a month before combining with USA sourced beeswax and our blend of herbal oil containing calendula, arnica and rose for added healing properties.

Recommended Uses: Apply to sore muscles, skin irritations such as sunburns, scrapes or bug bites. Use as a hydrating moisturizer to dry skin.

Olive Oil contains squalene and vitamin E. Squalene supports the skin’s moisture retention, whereas vitamin E increases the skin’s capacity to absorb and retain water.

Sunflower Oil is high in antioxidants, and rich in a variety of vitamins, including E, A, C and D, which are not only helpful in protecting the skin, but also in moisturizing and soothing it. 

Jojoba Oil is full of nutrients like Vitamin E and B, as well as antioxidants and minerals like chromium, copper, and zinc, which all nourish and protect skin.

Apricot Oil acts as an emollient, softening skin when applied, and helping to seal it against moisture loss. It also has a soothing effect, especially on “chapped” or over-dried skin.

Argan Oil is a rich source of vitamin E, which is required for healthy skin, hair and eyes.
